Wish We Were Here: Help shape Sheffield’s future

An energised room bustling with enthusiasm is not what you expect when you hear the phrases ‘deliberation event’, ‘strategic partnership’ and ‘council members’ but that’s exactly what occurred on the when the TCC Chairman, Jonathan Upton, recently orchestrated an open forum event at City Hall, Sheffield.

This interactive public event provided an opportunity for local Sheffielders to feedback their ideas to Sheffield First Partnership and Councillor Paul Scriven, the Leader of the Sheffield Council.

Sheffield First Partnership brings a wide range of organisations together to work towards a shared, long-term vision for the city. The partnership coordinates the work of a range of different public, private and voluntary agencies and initiatives, reducing duplication and maximising impact by working together, and ensuring that the interests of every sector in Sheffield is represented fairly.

The event used innovative techniques to go past the standard responses normally found at stuffy deliberative events.  Discussion around areas such as: community safety, housing, education and the environment, flourished under the direction of Jonathan and the facilitators.  Outputs were not limited to the usual, a couple of key words or themes, but included photos, drawings and real passion for Sheffield.  TCC’s interactive handsets were used to provide live feedback to the participants about the forums views and beliefs.

Sheffield First Partnership is developing the next City Strategy, which will set out the city’s ambitions and how these will be achieved over the next five years.

This interactive event provided an opportunity for local people to be involved in shaping the future of Sheffield.

Outcomes from the event and updates on the City Strategy will be available for download shortly from Sheffield First Partnership website (http://www.sheffieldfirst.org.uk).
